REVIEWS
HUW STEPHENS, Radio 1:
"His amazing debut album ... a brilliant record!" -

ADAM WALTON, Radio Wales:
"Highly recommended!"

KRUGER MAGAZINE:
'When I was first given this album for review, I really didn't know what to think of it. There was something distracting about the genre-hopping techno/ soundscape/ ambient mix that threw me and I couldn't understand what kind of album it was trying to be. But that's what you get for trying to do two things at once, so I gave up whatever I was doing and took it into the back room for a doors-shut, lights-off session which proved just how wrong I could be.
Brain Holiday is an engaging, vibrant and sophisticated album of the quality that I have come to expect from a Machine Records artist, whilst still being fairly open and accessible. Its Warp influences are fairly obvious (and wide ranging) but it has a character and charm all of its own that grows on you the more you listen to it. So no identity crisis, just an album that says "Listen to me. And do it properly".'

SMALLFISH RECORDS:
"A curious hybrid of electronic styles once again from Machine. I thought this reminded me a little of early-mid period Skam... lo-fi beats, off-kilter melodies, twisted effects a-plenty but still approachable and musical... definitely think Bola, Schematic et al. Very nice actually."

BUZZ MAGAZINE:
'Released by Cardiff's Machine.Records, the debut album from Lifting Gear Engineer is a sneaky one. Its first half is a procession of mildly diverting bleeps n' beats. Tough rhythms and scattershot melodies ultimately appear once too often. But then, something happens. The title track and 'This Is Real Reality' form Brain Holiday's soft centre. Thirteen minutes of Kevin Shields-esque burbling, super-distorted soundscapes give Brain Holiday an unexpected but wholly welcome twist. *** PB'

SOUND NATION:
'A one-man-machine from Aberdare, Lifting Gear Engineer is creating a fine buzz at the moment, with an array of beats and electro-tinged tunes. Rob Morgan, of the band Fillmore, started recording as Lifting Gear Engineer in July 2002. Highlights since then include playing at Clwb Ifor Bach, having a track on the 2003 Boobytrap compilation A Step In The Left Direction and regular airplay on Adam Walton's Musical Mystery Tour. This month sees the release of Lifting Gear Engineer's debut album, Brain Holiday, the first machine.records album release to be distributed by Shellshock. With the album full of lo-fi electro beats and soundscapes, synths and analogue drums, similarities have been drawn with Warp artists such as Aphex Twin and Leftfield and the Chemical Brothers.'
